From this spot, Arcos stands before us, bathed in sunlight, with its white houses overflowing onto the hillside. To the right, the Alcornocales Natural Park unfurls its green woodland while to the left we can see the Grazalema Mountain Range with its lime tipped peaks. Yet today, our gaze is steered towards the horizon, in the direction of Jerez, where the countryside breathes below the colossal sky.
The gentle hill slopes, decked out in golden tones from the wheat fields, coupled with the greenish vine-yards and greyish olive groves, form the backdrop for a generous landscape that has provided livelihood to generations. The vines, whose roots are deeply buried in the typical chalky soils, give us the gift of the wines for which this region is rightly famous. The olive grove bequeaths its essence in the form of oil while the wheat, tilting in the breeze, reminds is that this land has always been grain, bread and life.
With the wind brushing against our faces, we understand that Arcos’ history is not simply on view in its streets and crags, but moreover in the fertile lands that have nourished it. This does not end here; there are still more secrets to unearth.
