Now, my dearest travellers, I invite you to delve into the core of this place. Our visit commences at Arcos’ highest point, from where a stunning view is offered over the region. We find ourselves in the Cabildo Square, the beating heart of the city. Against this emblematic backdrop, where major traditions take place, such as the training of soldiers and jockeys, alongside bullfighting, sacramental acts are held as well as specialist evenings. Furthermore, the square offers itself as a meeting place for families who visit it frequently so that their children can enjoy and play together, thus allowing for them to spend delightful afternoons in a setting laden with history and the tapestry of life.

Each Monday at daybreak, the market is put in place, which is overseen by tradesmen from all over the region, namely furriers, potters, weavers and agriculturalists. My fondness for haberdashery leads me to take advantage of this occasion to purchase threads and fabrics, with which I make my own dresses, which I proudly wear in the ‘Forgiveness’ processions which are held on Easter Wednesday. This religious event begins in the Santa María Basilica.

Now, I would ask you to join me at this first point of call, where the stones whisper secrets of bygone years in our ears.
