Imagine you arrive in the Arcos of a bygone era. A dusty path stretches out before your feet and with it a natural wall rises from the ground: the Arcos Crag, a fortress sculpted over time dating back to much be-fore mankind claimed it. This was one of the gateways to the city, where travellers would stop and marvel at its grandeur.
Check out its silhouette against the sky. It is not merely rock; it is a geological storyline. Born of the sea, when these lands were a submerged riverbed and the waves deposited layer upon layer of sediments. Then, the water changed its course, the land rose upwards with the wind and rain sculpting this imposing gorge.
Now, close your eyes for a moment and imagine: the echo of horses’ hoofs as they enter the city, the hasty steps of merchants and travellers, the greeting offered by the sentries on guard from the vantage point… Arcos has changed, but this crag remains in its place, bearing witness to each epoch, to each tale.
At its peak, birds of prey swoop into the air. In its cracks, The crag’s irises mock the drought. At its foot-hills, poplars with bulrushes, oleanders and ashes bring the rock to life.
Nowadays, as has always been the case, the Crag continues to act as Arcos’ guardian, watching time pass by. Let’s keep moving forward, the best is yet to come.
